Writing
This document shows the skills, knowledge and understanding for literacy - writing / spelling etc that students need to be able to do. The following 2 points are VERY important.
[1] To be at the Year 5 National Standard students will be WORKING TOWARDS these criteria
[2] To be at the Year 6 National Standard students will be able to demonstrate these criteria consistently and without assistance.
Reading
The same points as are indicated in writing above apply to reading, namely point [1] and [2].
Mathematics
For mathematics, to be at the Year 5 standard students will be working on stage 6 i.e, they will be starting or able to demonstrate some but not all of the stage 6 requirements.
To be at Year 6 students should be able to demonstrate most, if not all of the stage 6 requirements.
Think of it as each stage is broken into 3 linear parts or equal thirds - the beginning, middle and end. We refer to them as the basic, proficient, advanced.
Year 5 students need to be at the basic or proficient area of stage 6;
and the Year 6 students need to be at the advanced area of stage 6
